My love for hockey and athletics across all seasons has been a major part of my life since my early years. Not only did I compete on a variety of teams throughout my youth, but I was also fortunate to play and work in several top-tier athletic and development camps throughout college and beyond, spanning multiple sports including hockey, soccer, lacrosse, and tennis. In addition to being a professional educator, my lifelong passion for cultivating positive experiences for youth in sports has led to various opportunities as a 3-sport MIAA/NFHS/USA Hockey/US Lacrosse/MYL/MYSL/US Soccer nationally certified coach, multi-sport game official, youth sport board member, and camp director for over two decades.
As a kid at heart with a lifelong love for hockey, I continue to skate two to three times per week as an adult, while also coaching multiple teams. My positive experiences as a student-athlete and camper myself were the catalyst for a lifelong connection to quality sports-centered settings, especially those located on campus or at summer camp locations. Ultimately, all my life experiences up to this point—especially my love for playing, teaching, coaching, camp directing, and most notably, being a father—have collectively prepared me for my roles as an educator, coach, and executive director. In these roles, I have had the privilege of positively impacting thousands of teammates, colleagues, and players over the past 24 consecutive years of athletic and camp seasons.
Further fueling my passion for hockey, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, coaching, and education has driven me to develop a legacy of quality sport and camp-based experiences for young athletes. Extending my impact as an educator and positive mentor through camp directing—particularly within my community on the South Shore of Massachusetts—is an aspect of my life that is incredibly rewarding. It was finally time to take my love for the game of hockey and combine it with the proven and winning recipe for an amazing sleepaway camp experience! Inspired by the success and positive impact of WINNIPESAUKEE SOCCER, Winni Lax Girls Camp, and WINNILAX BOYS CAMP held at the same location, WINNIHOCKEY was born to provide youth hockey players with a special experience.
For many young athletes—especially hockey players—schedules are packed with ice time, practices, elite programs, tournaments, and multi-sport commitments. While these are important steps in their athletic development and a ton of fun, WINNIHOCKEY provides a refreshing change of pace and a short break from the ice that recharges them as young student-athletes and hockey players. It’s a place where kids can take a break from the ice and enjoy an overnight camp experience that’s focused on fun, street hockey, and simply enjoying the game in a low-pressure, socially engaging environment.
The foundational mission of WINNIHOCKEY is to provide the other end of the spectrum from high-pressure elite hockey. Here, we offer kids the opportunity to have fun, to be kids at camp, socialize, build friendships, develop a growth mindset, build character, unplug, and play for the love of the game. WINNIHOCKEY is all about making lifelong memories and experiencing the unmatched camaraderie of camp life. At WINNIHOCKEY, hockey is played in its purest form—street hockey with friends from across New England—while also helping campers build character, confidence, and independence in a supportive, fun setting away from home. A recent study indicated that adolescents who attend a positive summer camp experience during their youth are better equipped with confidence and self-determination across all experiences thereafter, but most notably in major life events and transitions such as attending college or studying abroad. Additionally, 97% of campers return for a second summer consecutively, and many graduate to become counselors or directors themselves once they age out!
More than just a hockey camp, WINNIHOCKEY is about fostering growth—both on and off the ice. Campers strengthen their skills, develop meaningful friendships, and gain valuable life lessons—all while having an absolute blast. They arrive united by their passion for hockey and leave with so much more: shared experiences, deep connections, and memories that will last a lifetime.
I feel so fortunate to live out my dream as a professional educator, director, coach, entrepreneur, and father—with August being my absolute favorite time of year. Running camps and creating incredible experiences for amazing kids is what I love most. It’s when I get to pass on the gift of meaningful opportunities that inspire growth, help kids reach their potential, and bring them joy through authentic, high-quality camp life moments.
With that said, I am incredibly excited to bring together some of the most talented, passionate, and experienced educators, coaches, and players from across the Northeast to care for our campers in one of the most special locations that will surely capture the heart of your camper when they attend. Together, we’ll pass on the gift of a memorable overnight camp experience to kids who love the game of hockey for years to come!
For me, my wife Kristy, and our amazing staff, a successful season or camp week is not measured by goals and wins—though, of course, both are always great! For us, it’s truly all about ensuring that each and every one of our camper-athletes has a safe, inspiring, and positive overnight camp experience, while having a ton of fun playing some great hockey and enjoying every aspect our camp has to offer. Of ultimate importance to us is that all of our camper-athletes first and foremost get to enjoy being kids at an overnight camp while building their off-ice character, increasing their confidence, forming solid relationships, making lasting memories, and enjoying a quality camp experience that will positively impact their ongoing growth both off and on the ice for a lifetime.
We are honored to have the opportunity to provide your child with an incredible overnight street hockey camp experience in this special place that is so close to our hearts. We look forward to welcoming your son or daughter to the tradition as one of our campers and making it the best week of their summer!
Sincerely, TRAV | Founder & Executive Director
